Club History
|
The University of Delaware Roller Hockey Club was established in 1998 by
Keith Nieman (Consumer Econ, 2000) along with several other roller hockey players on campus. We are a
travel indoor roller hockey team representing the University of
Delaware as a club team. Roller Hockey is not currently
recognized as a varsity sport by any University. The team began as a member of the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (ECRHA), the governing body of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Collegiate Roller Hockey League (CRHL). After recent developments and breakdowns in the league, the UD Roller Hockey Club is still a member of ECRHA, but now part of the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Assocation, currently recognized as the single National governing body of college roller hockey. The UDRH season runs from October through the National tournament in April. Opponents include those within the region governed by the ECRHA. Currently this includes all Universities from Virginia to Maine including Virginia Tech, James Madison, Maryland, Penn State, Towson, Northeastern, and Rhode Island. Games are played during 3-5 weekends per semester at neutral rinks for standings within the ECRHA. A Regional tournament occurs in March-April with the top 12 teams of the Region entering the tourney. The results of Regionals determine which teams receive bids to the National Tournament for the NCRHA. The National Tournament then determines a champion for DI/II/III and B divisions. The UD Roller Hockey Team has received a bid to Nationals since its establishment in 1998 traveling to Chicago, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Philadelphia for the tournament. If you would like any other information about the club, please feel free to use any of the contacts listed on the 'Contact Us' page, and visit the links to our league on the 'Links' page. |
